How to Detox the Liver after Binge Drinking

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, many binge drinking episodes are started because of stress. When you start binge drinking, you damage several systems of your body. This includes your liver, kidneys, pancreas, and gall bladder. This means when you binge drink you have to spend some time detoxing your liver and other organs. Fortunately, there is a way to detox your liver that does not involve too much effort on your part.

Although you can purchase detox diets, many of them have too much sugar in them to do your liver any good.

Gatorade

Gatorade is an excellent way to rehydrate when you’ve had too much to drink. Most people will drink Gatorade before they go to bed after a night of drinking. It is high in electrolytes and drinking it will cause you to rehydrate.

A Good Multivitamin

after Binge Drinking

You’ll want to take a high quality multivitamin after binge drinking.

A good multivitamin is always a good idea but in the case of detoxing your liver, you don’t want to skimp on it. Most people will only buy a cheap one that doesn’t have all of the nutrients in it that you need for a thorough detox.

B12 and other B Vitamins

These are especially good if you have to work the next day. They give you energy and help your liver process any remaining alcohol. Many people take B vitamins to help with energy related concerns.

Milk Thistle

Milk Thistle has long been used to support liver function and you can take it when you are not drinking. It works just as well to keep your liver healthy as it does to help you recover from a night of binge drinking.

Garlic

You have probably heard the wonders of garlic before. Well it is also wonderful for healing your liver after binge drinking. It contains sulfur, which is a natural antibiotic and antioxidant. It also has the added effect of lowering cholesterol and triglycerides.

Green Leafy Vegetables

Yes, I know this one is a no brainer. Green leafy vegetables clean out your liver and provide valuable nutrients.

Healthy Liver Detox Recipes

Lemon and Honey Tea

When your stomach cannot stand anything cold after binge drinking, lemon and honey tea works wonders. Lemon, honey, and water only. Most people try to add other things but that will only upset your stomach.

Broth and Crackers

If all else fails and you cannot find anything else that you can keep down heat some chicken broth and dunk saltines in it. Make sure that it is not too hot or too cold. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, it just has to be normal broth.

A good detox is always needed after binge drinking. You need to be careful what you put into your body after you are hard on it. Binge drinking is horrible for your body, but you can recover from it. If you are binge drinking on a regular basis you might want to look into getting help. There are plenty of agencies that are willing to provide you with assistance.
