While on a colon cleansing diet, the following foods will help your body with the detoxification and restorative process of colon cleansing.

The following foods will maximize the benefits of colon cleansing:

Onion Family

Garlic: Try adding garlic to everything, salads, sauces and spreads to maximize your colon cleansing benefits. In addition to its cardio benefits, it activates liver enzymes that help filter out junk.

Onions: Onions stimulate the growth of healthy bifidobacteria and suppress the growth of potentially harmful bacteria in the colon. Onions can also reduce the risk of tumours developing in the colon.

Leeks: Leeks are an excellent source of dietary fiber. They contain large amounts of folic acid, calcium, potassium, and vitamin C. Leeks happen to be easier to digest than standard onions. They also have laxative, antiseptic, diuretic, and anti-arthritic properties.


Lemons: Lemons contain lots of vitamin C, which is considered the detox vitamin. Vitamin C helps to convert toxins into a water-soluble form that’s easily flushed away. Try drinking water with fresh lemon juice every morning to maximize your colon cleansing benefits.

Apples: Research shows that the pectin in apples reduces the risk of colon cancer and helps maintain a healthy digestive tract. Apples also contain antioxidants that are protective against cancer development.

Cherries: Cherries have among the highest levels of disease-fighting antioxidants, when compared to other fruits. They also contain other important nutrients such as beta carotene, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, iron and fiber.

Figs: Figs help promote healthy bowel function due to the high levels of fibre. Figs are also amongst the most highly alkaline foods, making them useful in balancing the pH of the body.

Grapefruit: Grapefruit is useful for weight loss, since it is low in sodium and high in fat burning enzymes. Low sodium intake can help flush out excess water that is caused by high sodium food. Grapefruit is also known to help in the proper digestion of food.

Cranberries: Cranberries are rich in vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin D. They also contain plenty of fiber, manganese, potassium and they also provide a good source of antioxidants. Cranberries are one of the most useful fruits while on a colon cleansing program due to their numerous detox qualities.


Cucumber: Cucumbers are very high in water, very low in calories and an excellent source of potassium, vitamin C and folic acid. The high water content makes cucumbers a diuretic and it also has a cleansing action within the body allowing the removal of accumulated pockets of old waste material and chemical toxins.

Celery: Celery includes excellent cleansing properties that help to aid digestion, regulate body fluid by acting as a diuretic and curbing sweet cravings.

Broccoli: Broccoli is high in vitamins C, K, and A, as well as dietary fiber; it also contains multiple nutrients with potent anti-cancer properties.


Parsley: Parsley settles the stomach and improves the appetite. The high content of vitamin C is not only useful in its own right, but also assists the absorption of the valuable quantity of iron.

Brown Rice: Brown rice is beneficial for stomach and intestinal ulcers and for diarrhoea. It is easily digested starch food.
