Diet and exercise can mean more to a person’s overall level of health than simply as a means for weight loss. You are quite simply what you eat, and unfortunately today’s loyalty to processed junk foods, refined sugars, and fatty fast foods mean that the average person is not as healthy as they believe to be. This takes a toll not only on your appearance but also your health levels. From time to time, it’s great to undergo a cleansing of the body, with body detox foods that give the digestive system a welcome break from all of the unwholesome ingredients that go into our bodies.
Body detox foods can be used in special circumstances or they can be incorporated full time into our dietary rotation, which of course would be the healthier thing to do. Some examples of foods that are great for detoxification include cruciferous vegetables, including cabbage and kale that give a huge boost of antioxidants. This is beneficial for liver function. The liver is often neglected, even though it plays a huge role in the body, helping fight off toxins day and night and keeping us in optimum health.
Fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains that are high in fiber are extremely important members of the body detox foods club, because they help keep the digestive system on track and the colon able to operate in its function of moving solid waste materials out of the body. Fruits and berries are especially helpful, because they also have a mild laxative effect that can be quite beneficial in moving the waste out of the system.
Water may not count to everyone as one of the body detox foods, but it is a very important component of any detox program or diet. Almost every diet that has been written in fact, will recommend that a person drink 6-8 cups of water per day. This not only helps keep the system fully flushed, but keeps the body hydrated, and a person feeling full on zero calories. For weight loss as well as overall body function, water is essential to diet and should be consistently replaced throughout the day. All of these components help keep the body in top shape, and better able to combat all toxins that we consume.
