Stomach problems can come from many things. People who suffer from access gas, diarrhea, bloating stomach or abdominal pain will usually blame their bowel dysfunction on a number of stomach and intestinal health issues; when in fact many of these issues and even seemingly obvious cases of IBS or Colitis are actually just symptoms of the larger problem of parasites in the stomach or intestines.
While parasites used to be classified as a third world problem or one associated with risky travel to underdeveloped countries, many people right here in North America have parasites living inside them and don’t even know it.
Parasites enter the body from a variety of different sources. Common causes include consumption of uncooked or unwashed produce or meats, sushi, or contaminated water. Individuals consume these products that contain microscopic parasitic spores and these spores later hatch in the colon. The resulting tiny organisms, otherwise known as parasites, stay in the body and survive off of their host. These parasites co-exist with yeast and bacteria often going unnoticed for long periods of time, sometimes even years.
In fact these parasites live off of the digested food in the stomach and intestines. They are selfish critters that take first dibs on food that arrives in the stomach and happily strip it of all nutrients, leaving the body leftover scraps to feed itself. This means that individuals with parasites inside them will feel depleted of energy and nutrients despite their best efforts at proper nutrition.
If left untreated parasites could wreak havoc on the digestive tract and overall bodily functions. Parasites in the body cause chronic irritation of cellular tissues, encouraging the build up of toxins and blocking important bodily functions. They can cause serious damage to internal organs and most seriously could even result in cancer.
Individuals suffering from parasites can clean their intestinal tract by purchasing a natural high-fiber detox that includes supplements such as papaya extract, activated charcoal, psyllium husks, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds and citrus pectin. This coupled with other herbal remedies can aid in the elimination of parasites in a less intrusive way than commercial antibiotic solutions.
And while it is impossible to avoid all situations that could lead to parasitic infection some precautions include:
• Drink clean, pure water. Chlorination does not kill all parasites. It is advisable to filter all drinking water.
• Always wash fresh produce carefully, especially vegetables.
• Wash your hands thoroughly before preparing or eating food and after using the toilet.
• If you eat animal meat, ensure that it is cooked thoroughly.
• Maintain a healthy lifestyle to guard against parasites. A consistently poor diet can promote poor intestinal health, creating the perfect environment for parasites to thrive. For example: It is known that a high intake of refined foods, like sweets, which supply little or no nutrient yet satisfy the appetite, causes individuals to become susceptible to pinworms which thrive on sugar.
So what types of parasites could be living inside of you? Well, here in North America worms are perhaps the most common. Symptoms of worms include diarrhea, hunger pains, loss of appetite, and weight loss. And while there are many types of worms you are most likely to contract pinworms or tapeworms here in the U.S.
Pinworms are spread through small microscopic eggs found in contaminated food and that then become lodged under a person’s fingernails. To prevent these worms it is important to practice hand washing before and after handling food.
Tapeworms are usually contracted from eating undercooked meats, usually beef here in the U.S. The beef tapeworm if left untreated can quickly grow to 15 or 20 feet, taking over the intestines.
